Research In Motion, a well-known Canadian maker of Blackberry smartphones, has shown some signs of life. The company issued its earning report for Q2 on September 7. Wall Street was surprised when the report showed that prospects of the Canadian smartphone producer were better than analysts had expected. Despite the fact that RIM posted one more quarterly loss, the damage was not as huge as analysts had feared.

According to different reports in press Research In Motion could sell its BlackBerry handset business or maybe the company stake to a larger corporation like Microsoft, with the purpose of staying on mobile market. Earlier company was pinning its hopes on forthcoming new line of BlackBerry 10 phones, but now it is not enough to turn things around especially after rescheduling release. Even the number of companies that can buy the stake of RIM is limited.  For a long time Microsoft competed with BlackBerry because of Exchange service so if to think about what Microsoft can win it’s the chance to finally squeeze up BlackBerry! As Motorola is already Google’s property, Microsoft has made an alliance with Nokia, so if it would like to acquire a phone company no need to go so far. However, taking into consideration the cheap cost of Nokia and the surprising fact that Microsoft doesn’t want to buy it, one can put a question “does Microsoft really need it?” So it has to be admitted that RIM is really in a difficult situation.

Another RIM’s Report on Quarterly Loss

On May 22, sad news greeted RIM investors and partners as the Blackberry maker announced its release of the report on its second successive quarterly loss. On Saturday, RIM’s first quarter of the fiscal year 2013 will end. The repot is expected by the 28th of June.
